Kate Victory is an abstract expressionist painter based in Charlotte, N.C. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Art from Davidson College and a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Chicago Graduate School of Business. Trained as a weaver and painter, Kate has experimented with different materials and media throughout her career. She received the Thomas J. Watson Fellowship and spent a year studying indigenous textiles in several countries around the world, including kente cloth in Ghana, Harris Tweed in Scotland, and Finnish ryijy. Her work examines the intersection of her background in fiber art and the evolution of her painterly practice, balancing the inherent structure of woven textiles with the freedom of expression found in abstraction.
